Camp News
Canteen & Laundry staff NEW!
We need volunteers to fill canteen & laundry positions for this summer’s camping session — one for week 1, and one for week 4. If you’re interested in volunteering for these positions, let us know.
Cecil Perkins Memorial Service NEW!
In celebration of the life of our beloved friend, Cecil Perkins, who passed away this past January, a memorial service will be held on camp grounds, at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24th — the Sunday of Work & Worship Week.
Dinner will be provided, and limited lodging is available to those who respond on a first-come, first-serve basis, until all beds are full.

Please let us know in advance how many will be in attendance and if lodging is needed, so we can plan accordingly.

Help send kids to camp this summer, in memory of Cecil
Gander Brook has set up a campership fund in memory of Cecil. Make a donation and help a child experience the joy of summer camping at Gander Brook Christian Camp.
Sad news UPDATED

Per Camp Director, Shawn Daggett:
Cecil did, in fact pass away. I called Cecil’s phone this morning and his brother, Dave, answered. Dave said that Cecil was having problems with kidney stones and was on pain medicine. He last talked with him on Wednesday, (January 4th, I think). Dave and others are guessing that Cecil passed away sometime over last weekend. He was found in his home by friends of the school where he teaches after not showing up for work Monday. It was not clear to me, however, when they found him. Dave said that he may have died of a pulmonary embolism. He believes that he passed away in his sleep. A memorial service will be held Saturday (Jan 14) in Memphis. Arrangements are not yet complete. Dave is staying in Cecil’s home right now and so I assume cards and flowers can be sent there. The address below is correct. As I have more information, I will let you know. Cecil was 58 years old and is well loved and respected by all counselors, staff, directors and campers of Gander Brook.

Updated Information: There will be a memorial service either Saturday, Jan 14 or Sunday, Jan 15 in Memphis, TN. Cecil will be cremated and there will be no flowers. Please just send cards to the address below.
